While her classmates faced the fun of their senior year in high school, Katie faced a year-long fight for her life at Renown Children’s Hospital. Seventeen-year-old Katie Histing was doing the things a normal teenager does when her family learned that she had a rare bone cancer.
Ewing sarcoma is a cancerous tumor that typically occurs in children and young adults. Katie underwent aggressive chemotherapy at Renown Children’s Hospital. Fortunately, Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist Jacob Zucker, MD, was able to treat Katie here in Reno.
Katie missed a lot of the perks of that last semester of high school at Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, but she was able to go to prom and walk on graduation day.
Katie completed her last series of chemotherapy in December and plans to begin college at the University of Nevada, Reno in January.
